Why do we ALWAYS freak out when winter weather arrives? The slightest chance of snow or ice has people going crazy here... why is that? Let us know...

Because it is not use to and it is one thing that does not happen much here so people tent to freck out and that people do not what to do when it comes to the weather when it is a storm we are like ok that is nothing but when it snows it is everything to everybody because somepeople can get the day off from it and when it is just a strom there is no day off

Its funny for us up here in the mountains to watch you "flat-landers" freak out over a little dusting of snow. They call for a heavy frost down there and DOT sends out 100 salt trucks and they cancel school. Of course up here, they let school out for a heavy frost too.

Well, I have lived in the North (OH on Lake Erie) and here. The thing here in Charlotte is that we do not have the equipment that is available in EVERY area up north to clear the roads (makes a HUGE difference). Plus, the folks up north drive in snow as much as dry roads. Another thing is that most of the winter weather here turns to ice on the roads, and no body can get use to driving on ice, Yankee or rebel, because ice is unpredictable!

We don't get enough snow here to get experienced with it. People are scared to get out and drive after snow or ice so they buy out the bread and milk sections of the store. It may not be necessary, but it sure does boost sales for the stores. Also around here we mostly get freezing rain and not snow. Because of that there is always a big risk of the power going out from the lines being weighted down with ice and the tree branches weighted down with the ice that snap the lines. The other big risk is that people will have wrecks that cause the power to be out for long periods of time. My husband laughs at the way things are done around here because he is an ex-yankee. He says I'm like a kid in a candy store when it snows.

Being from New Jersey (only lived here in Charlotte for 2 years now), I laugh hysterically everytime people around here start fussing about "winterstorms". Sorry but an inch of snow isn't something to go into panic about. I really enjoyed how people scrambled to get stocked up on their groceries. I also believe the news media hypes it up way too much, causing people to panic. But I guess you guys from down here aren't used to it like we are. Thanks for making us relocated yankees laugh!

My bread and milk are already buried and guarded by a german shepherd. Luckily he has a wheat alergy and is also lactose intolerant.

=)

GraphicsWarrior: lol

i'm sure my german shepherd would help yr german shepherd guard the bread & milk: she is always takin' whatever food i give her, that she can't eat, & buries it all around the back garden... what is truly funny is she doesn't seem to notice that i am standing on the deck watching her every move (she digs remarkably deep holes for the food).

all right, back to the weather. havin' lived around this planet durin' my short life, i've experienced all kinds of weather challenges. the promise of winter weather is just that, a promise, and one that i will meet with the same aplomb that i meet other weather challenges.

next question?
