It always seems to rain right as I leave for work.  Then, or right as I leave to go home.

I only live about 7 minutes away (by car), but on rainy days...it can be double, triple or even quadruple that.

That got me thinking...I wonder how all of this rain is affecting people who live further away from work?  And what about the folks that live near low water crossings?  How long are your commutes?  And what do you have to go through to get to work on rainy days?

Everyday seems to be raining in the morning then gets hot and humid all of a sudden mid-day after the rain stops especially if the sun comes out from behind a cloud for a little then starts raining later in the afternoon.

Of course, I have full rain gear but if I see lightning, I never go on the roofs.

If it is raining, I have to get out of the house about 15 minutes earlier than the usual 30 minutes time I give myself to make my first call on time at 8am.

Traffic gets horrific in the rain and I have seen people come sliding though intersections only because the tires on their cars have worn down I am sure.

More than likely there are more wrecks on the road some of which I never see way ahead on the road that slow traffic to a crawl on most rainy days I have seen for the past 3 months.

My new service truck will stop on a dime so I have to also keep an eye out for people behind me that may also have those worn out tires that would slide right into that giant steel bumper my truck has.

I came across a driver the other day in the middle lane of IH-35 going 40mph. Saw him way ahead but no way to get around him as I slowed to keep a distance and other vehicles were whizzing by at about 70mph in the right and left lanes. The road had dried but there he was doing 40mph LOL

I then realized why I see some wrecks where a car looks like the whole rear end is smashed to the hood of the car with ambulances the fire department and jaws of life equipment all over the car and a blanket over someone laying in the road.

Yep, that sounds like Austin rain. I well remember summers back in the late seventies, early eighties where it seemed to rain in Austin every day of the summer. We had some really bad floods then along Lamar Blvd. I lived at the top of a hill on West 9th street so my house was never flooded, but I could walk down the street and see floods just a couple of blocks away. I remember seeing grand pianos and Subarus (among other things) floating down Lamar.

Wow...that sounds like some heavy rain! I can't even imagine seeing pianos and cars floating down Lamar.

Thankfully, I have a very short commute. But whenever it rains, I'm still forced to ponder...why does everyone seem to forget the rules of the road when it's raining?

My name is Julie and I'm a producer here at FOX 7. I have wanted to be a news producer ever since the 5th grade. That year I bet my folks $100 I could go a whole year without watching TV as long as I was still allowed to see the news. (In case you're wondering...I won.)
